We can’t say enough about Casa de Sonrisas! This was our second time staying here and we are booked again for next year. The casa is lovely, well equipped with everything one would need! We enjoyed the courtyard with a lovely saltwater pool and loungers. The location is perfect, close walking distance to the beach and to town. La Penita has everything to offer, fabulous restaurants, grocery stores, bakery and butcher shops! If you want to truly experience Mexico living, Casa Sonrisas is located on a Mexican residential street where chickens, roosters and dogs roam freely, we loved it! The owner Lissa is always more than accommodating and very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas if you want to be adventurous! Thank you Lissa for another great vacation in your Casa!

This place had everything. It was very well equipped. The kitchen had everything we needed, even a blender for pina coladas. The beds were very comfortable. The pool was great. It was very clean. Lissa ,the host, was super accommodating and very knowledgeable about the area. She has great contacts too. It is only a few feet from the beach and only a 10minute walk to town. La Penita is absolutely fantastic too. We will stay at this place again

November Retreat

My wife and I stayed here for 2 weeks in November. The kitchen was very well appointed. The large beautiful covered terrace gave us lots of privacy and we spent lots of time eating our meals on it and enjoying our morning coffee. The pool had plenty of furniture around for all guests and the size of the pool we felt was perfect. Loved the tile tortuga on the bottom especially. Location to the beach was less than a minute. The beach was great, sat there and watched local fishermen at work. We walked all the way to the Royal Decameron several times with no problems, once to Los Ayala and back. If you are adventurous and enjoy walking around, this was a perfect location to start from. Everyone was very friendly with us. We had small issue with our accommodations upon our arrival and the owner had it fixed immediately. We went out for dinner and when we came back it was fixed. The owner was very helpful in all things, where to eat, where to visit, what was happening in town. We enjoyed ourselves immensely

Small town. Mexican vibe, half block from beach, 10 minute walk into La Penita centro

We loved the neighbourhood, the easy walk into town, to the weekly artisans’ market, to our favourite restaurants, and when properly timed, relaxing in beach chairs (provided by the landlord) to take in the amazing sunsets.
A well equipped kitchen, including large fridge and stove, modern, if small bathroom, and plenty of excellent quality towels, including beach towels, made for a very comfortable three month stay. We also found invaluable Lissa’s well organized And informative binder which covered just about anything you need to know about the area and what it has to offer. And last but not least, any request was promptly and graciously dealt with. Thank you, Lissa.

Hi there just thought I would leave another review for Casa Pacifico. If you are looking for a true Mexican experience this is the place to be ! We spent 1week with Lissa from the super clean and cute unit to the dip in her pool after the hot day ! Our experience was truly enjoyable ! You are in and amongst the true Mexican locals and their culture! Never once did we feel unwelcome right down to the little cafe that a woman has opened and cooks out of her home awesome food ! Lissa has her home and courtyard gated so you always feel safe at night ! Someday we hope to return ! Thanks again lissa we think of you often!!

We had a wonderful 24 days at Casa de la Algeria! The property is exactly as pictured and described. We were delighted to find that it is equipped with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and convernient. There are beach chairs and umbrella, pool toys, a generous supply of towels, comfortable poolside lounges, and a marvellously well equipped kitchen including a full size refrigerator and propane stove. Just outside this vacation oasis you step into a real Mexican town with all that that involves including cobble streets, a school, friendly locals, corner stores, restaurants, and of course dogs. We loved it! Lissa is most accommodating; she was kind enough to take us to a local doctor when needed. Her ‘in casa’ visitor guide is helpful and comprehensive. Thanks Lissa. Love to Cricket! We look forward to staying again.

I'll definitely be returning to this rental for my next vacation to Mexico! The owner is on site and is so helpful! The bed was super comfortable and keeping the windows open made for a wonderful cross breeze while I slept. The pool area is a lovely little area to lay out and get some sun while reading a book and drinking your morning coffee before taking the 1 minute walk to the beach! If you're not in the mood to lay by the pool there is a private covered patio off the rental as well. The town is super friendly and has tons of places to grab a bite to eat or do a little shopping. Oh, and did I mention the rental comes with basic cooking spices, tin foil, plastic wrap and sandwich bags? Lissa (the owner) really has thought of everything and it made for a great vacation experience, and the all inclusive pricing is an added touch, no surprise utility bills, fees for WiFi or cleaning charges!"

Yes, it is really only 1/2 block to a beautiful non-crowded beach! We were either in Lissa's very clean pool or at the beach every day of our trip! Lissa was a great host with a wealth of information, ideas and suggestions about things to do in and around La Penita. She provides a comprehensive book (in the casita) which is very clear and answers a lot of questions. She has done an excellent job making sure you have everything you need - pots, pans, coffee maker, clean beach and bath towels, beach bag, boogie board, reusable shopping bags, dish towels, TV with Netflix & Amazon Prime...you get the picture. We had many questions for Lissa and she was always very accommodating. She even offered to drive me to the store to get medicine for my wife during a heavy tropical rainstorm. Her personal (local) restaurant suggestions were spot on! Make sure you ask her about Lucy and Alex's restaurant which is a 3-minute walk from her place. It is one of those places where you have to know its there because it is basically two people (mother and son) cooking out of their house! There are just a couple of items on the menu and they are only open in the evening on Fri, Sat, Sun but it was some of the best food we ate. My kids who are finicky eaters loved this place! The other place she recommended was La Casita de Irma. This place was absolutely GREAT!!! Definitely, one of our favorites!!! The interesting thing about both these places is they were tastiest, cleanest food and drinks we experienced and they were both the LEAST expensive...Imagine that! Getting back to the Casita (ours was called Casa de Alegria, Casa Pacifico is the entire property) where you will at least be spending some of your time...did I already mention it was clean? No, I think I said Super Clean! It was also really cute and color coordinated inside. The air conditioner worked very well. The water pressure in the indoor shower was very low. That might be a problem for some but it really wasn't a problem for us. I would highly recommend staying here!

Wonderful stay

This was my first stay here and to Mexico. It was amazing. I absolutely loved the drive from the airport to Casa Pacifico. I was amazed at the beautiful garden area by pool side. We stayed in the casita which offered a full kitchen, large bathroom, living/ dining area, and two bedrooms. The unit was clean and furnished with local mexican flare. The owner was very helpful in offering suggestions for area attractions, markets, beaches to visit, and places to eat. One of the best things about casa pacifico is its short walk to the quiet beach. And when I say quiet....it is. There are no vendors always trying to sell you something. Many times when we were there we were the only people on the beach. Wonderful beach to swim or just look out at the ocean. Casa Pacifico is located in a local neighborhood. So you will hear kids playing at the school, chickens, and the waves rolling in. It is also a short walk into town via the streets or the beach. La Penita offers a bank, several grocery markets, restaurants, street taco vendors, and stores. I highly recommend Tiki's restaurant which overlooks the beach. Great food and view. I truely enjoyed my stay here and would highly recommend staying here.

"My stay in this lovely casita was just what I needed to de-stress! The beach was not cramped with people, and the waves were soothing (not roaring for surfers as a few miles down the coast). Even though the ocean is so close, the pool felt like heaven after shopping and sightseeing. The amenities were plentiful: towels, nice sheets, bottled water, kitchen stuff, etc. the owner was considerate and gracious with good knowledge of restaurants, shopping, etc."

"We stayed in the upper unit for a month (February) and have already booked for next year. The bed was very comfortable (that's important because I have a bad back.) The unit was spotlessly clean, nicely equipped, and has wonderful cross ventilation. There is a notebook with maps, restaurant tips (go to Irma's), and guidance on tipping. It is such a bonus to have laundry on site. The beautiful beach is just a short walk away or you can also relax on the veranda or by the pool. The owner is around if you have questions but she also totally respects your privacy. I really enjoyed being in a Mexican neighborhood, seeing the school kids, watching the dogs snooze, stopping by the tortilleria to get fresh tortillas for lunch or picking up a mini-Magnum ice cream bar at the corner Abbarrote. You can get by just fine without knowing any Spanish except Please, Thank you, Pardon me. I have been coming to this area for 20 years and this is my favorite rental so far."

Lovely two bedroom casita that is steps away from the ocean.

We had a great stay at the Casa de la Alegria. The accommodations were excellent. The kitchen had everything that you would have in your own home. There is a beautiful salt water pool. Washer and dryer is on the property. Only steps away from the ocean and the beach. Our landlady Lissa was great. She was always available to answer all our questions. It is walking distance to downtown for groceries and shopping. There were two great restaurants down our street named Lucy's and Las Koritas. Excellent meals. There were many more restaurants downtown.

Great Place We will Be Back

We could hear the ocean surf on the veranda it is a short walk to the beach. All the amenities are close by only a 5-10 minute walk. Not a lot of tourists. Off the beaten path. Very comfortable place to spend some time roomy.

Superb place to stay for a week or a month. Spacious rooms, full kitchen, beautiful courtyard, private pool, and just a few houses away from the beach. Small local town away from the big box resorts. Cant wait to come back!

We had a great time. We loved La Penita. If you like big all inclusive resorts then it might not be for you. La Penita truly is a working town. It's regular people working and living their lives in this wonderful village. The beach is right at the end of the block from Casa Pacifico and it was never crowded. It was Easter break for the locals and we were warned that it might be busy. The Mexicans know how to enjoy the beach. Three or four generations, music, food, drink and sand, lots of sand. It was great. Lissa is very warm and welcoming. Both, before we got there by emails and after we arrived, if we had any questions or needed anything, she was right there. We stayed in the upstairs suite. It was clean, bright, cool with a huge deck that we used for early morning sun and coffee, and in the afternoon for margaritas. If your looking for the authentic, real Mexico, this is for you. I highly recommend Lissa at Casa Pacifico in La Penita.

Wonderful vacation!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Pacifico! The casita was very clean, comfortable and very relaxing. So nice to come back to after our day trips — so many things to do and see and places to eat thanks to Lissa’s suggestions. Loved the salt water pool, garden, sitting areas and walking to the beach! Wonderful vacation! Thanks Lissa!

Rest and relaxation

This was the perfect 9 day getaway. The Casita is so comfortable and has everything you need. The salt water pool was a pleasant surprise. No more chlorine for me! Lissa was phenomenal. She answered all my questions, suggested wonderful things to do and places to eat. Plan on returning Sumner 2019.

We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving week here in 2016. The house is comfortable, clean and large enough for a family of three. The photos posted by Lissa reflect exactly what the place looks like and it is really pretty and cozy. A/C and ceiling fans made a big difference, especially in the evening. The house, including the kitchen and the bathroom, is fully stocked, and whatever we couldn't find (bar of soap, corkscrew) we bought on Penita's main strip. We got groceries at the supermarket on the way from the airport and ate at least one meal a day at the house. At night, neighbors played loud music, but inside the bedroom we couldn't hear it. The private pool was nice, but the ocean blew it right out of the water. The beach is a few doors down, a two-minute walk. It's about a mile long, and most of the time, there were very few other people on it. The water was very warm and swimmable. Lissa is great. She lives in another house past a beautiful little garden on the same property. Her advice was always spot on. We enjoyed our privacy, and Lissa was there most of the time and happy to help if we needed her. La Penita is a good hour from the airport. We suggest renting a car. We drove around and explored beaches and towns along the coast. Ask Lissa for car rental recommendations. We forgot to and got ripped off, at least a little. The beach was hands-down the best part of the vacation. Staying away from touristy places like Puerto Vallarta was definitely the right decision, too. We had a peaceful and relaxing time.
